Junk
Greenies, sandies, barkies — points for the good stuff
The game in 20 seconds
Junk is points for the good stuff — a birdie, a greenie, a sandy, a chip-in. Every item is worth points, and at the end the points are paid on the difference between every two players.
It's a side game: it rides on top of your main game and can't be played on its own. Two, three or four players.
Getting it on the card
- Add it with Choose Game(s), next to your main game — anything but Scramble.
- Picked up mid-round? It counts from that hole on.
- Everyone in the main game plays. No teams, no order.
The items
- Birdie — 1 point. A gross birdie.
- Eagle — 2. Eagle or better. It pays instead of the birdie, not on top of it.
- Greenie — 1. Par 3s only: closest to the pin, then par or better.
- Sandy — 1. Par or better after being in a bunker.
- Barkie — 1. Par or better after hitting a tree.
- Splashy — Off. Par or better after the water.
- Polie — 1. Holed a putt longer than the flagstick, any score.
- Chip-in — 1. Holed out from off the green, any score.
- 3-putt — Off. Turned on, three putts or more costs you points.
Items stack: one hole can pay a birdie, a polie and a sandy.
Claiming it
- Birdies, eagles and 3-putts count themselves — they come off the score and the putts.
- The rest you claim back at the cart, on the Junk & putts sheet after the hole: tap your items, then your putts. No junk? Just tap your putts.
- It comes up after every hole, even with putts tracking off. In a shared round each phone asks about its own golfer.
- Forgot one? Tap it on the Junk card on the Score screen — tap again to take it back.
Hole 1 · par 4Nate birdies → Birdie +1.
Greg is in the bunker, gets up and down for par, taps Sandy → Sandy +1.
Tyler is in the sand too and taps Sandy, but makes 5 → nothing.
Hole 3 · par 5Tyler makes 3 → Eagle +2, no birdie on top.
Nate holes one longer than the flagstick for birdie → Birdie +1, Polie +1.
Greg hits a tree and makes 6 → no barkie.
The greenie
On a par 3 the greenie goes to whoever is closest to the pin — the Closest to pin pick on the Score screen — and they still have to make par or better.
No pick made? If only one player claimed the greenie, it's theirs. If two claimed it, the Score screen asks you to pick Closest to pin.
Hole 2 · par 3Tyler is closest and two-putts for par → Greenie +1.
Mike misses the green and chips in for 2 → Birdie +1, Chip-in +1.
The odd one · par 3Greg is closest but three-putts for a 4.
No greenie — and it doesn't drop to the next closest. Nobody gets it.
The 3-putt
Off unless you turn it on. Set it from −1 to −5, and every hole with three putts or more costs you that. It reads your putts — nothing to claim.
Hole 1 · 3-putt at −1Greg and Mike 3-putt, Tyler 4-putts — each loses a point.
Nate two-putts: Nate is 1 up on all three, +$3 at $1 a point.
Handicaps
None. Junk runs on gross scores — a birdie is a real birdie and par is real par. Strokes don't change a single point; net or gross, the totals are the same.
💰The money
Every two players settle the difference in their junk points, at the $ per pt you put on the Junk card under Settle up on the Standings screen.
After holes 1–3, at $1 a pointNate 3, Tyler 3, Mike 2, Greg 1.
Nate: 2 up on Greg, 1 up on Mike, even with Tyler → +$3. Tyler the same → +$3.
Mike: 1 up on Greg, 1 down to Nate and Tyler → −$1.
Greg: 2, 1 and 2 down → −$5.
It folds into the one payout with your other games. Battle Tees never touches the money.
Options in Battle Tees
- Birdie 1 · Eagle 2 · Greenie 1 · Sandy 1 · Barkie 1 · Splashy Off · Polie 1 · Chip-in 1 — each from Off (0) to 10. Off takes an item out of the game.
- 3-putt — Off. On, it's −1 to −5.
- Players — everyone in the main game plays.
An eagle never pays less than a birdie: turn Eagle off, or set it below Birdie, and an eagle pays as a birdie.
Set them before the first hole; they stay for the round. Junk picked up mid-round can be set until its first hole is in — Standings has a Set junk points button until then.
⚡How to win it
- Bunkers aren't dead. At the default points a sandy pays the same as a birdie — get it up and down.
- Par 3s carry an extra point. Get closest, then don't three-putt it away.
- Long putts pay twice. Hole one longer than the flagstick for birdie and it's a polie and a birdie.
- With the 3-putt on, lag it.
Variations you'll hear about
Arnies. Some groups pay a point for a par made without hitting the fairway. Battle Tees doesn't have an Arnie.
